Flowers on the move

Flowers on the move

Taken in Havana, Cuba in January 2018.

Havana is full of vibrant colours and lots of entrepreneurial characters. Rather than have a stall, this flower seller used his bike to sell his flowers, on the move.

Old Havana grandeur

Castillo de la Real Fuerza is a bastion fort in the Old Town of Havana. It was a pretty stormy day when we were wandering around the Old Town, but the sun came out to highlight the old stone walls of the fort just in time for me to snap a photo!

Taken in Varadero, Cuba in January 2018.

One of those iconic shots of a Caribbean island - a leaning palm tree! This was a lone palm tree resisting the wind on the beach at Varadero.

How much do you want?

How much do you want?

There are lots of sugarcane plantations around Cuba. We visited an old plantation near Varadero. This was one of the sugarcane cutters and he demonstrated how to strip the plant to get to the gritty sugary goodness. He meant business!

Which way do we go?

Which way do we go?

This old farmer was clearing his land on the side of the road. We had taken a road off the highway and had (of course!) gotten lost. He was very helpful and friendly and posed for photos, after giving us directions.

Want a smoke?

Want a smoke?

Taken in Vinales, Cuba in January 2018.

This was working tobacco farm, one of many in the region. It was amazing to see all the wonderful green plants, before they are dried and rolled up to create those famous Cuban cigars.

One of those iconic views of Vinales with its lush valley floor and limestone hills in the background. A beautiful place to watch a sunset, ride a bike or hike into the hills.

Rain colours

Rain colours

Taken in Santa Clara, Cuba in January 2018.

Being a Caribbean island, short sharp rain showers are the norm. This photo was taken just after such a shower in the central town of Santa Clara. I love how the colours of the buildings are blending into the rain-slicked street.

Old cars are one of β€˜the’ things about Cuba. There are loads of different types around. This one caught my eye as it was strategically parked for all to see in the Old Town of Trinidad.

Play me a little tune

Music is a way of life in Cuba. In Trinidad, there are lots of street performers, their music floating on the breeze and colliding with the next musician down the lane.

This group of old timers were more interested in shooting the breeze than playing!

A window with a view #1

A window with a view #1

Taken in Trinidad, Cuba in January 2018.

The St Francis of Assisi convent and bell tower is one of the recognisable buildings in Trinidad. About half-way up the bell tower, there are circular windows where you can get a glimpse of the town.

Locked away in a frame

There are so many beautiful old windows and doors all across Cuba. But Trinidad definitely has its fair share! This was a lovely old window with an ornate frame against one of those bright Caribbean colours.
