Play time

Play time

Taken at Lalibela Market, Ethiopia, in January 2011.

This little boy caught my eye as he was playing in the piles of grain at the Saturday Market in Lalibela.

Guardian

Guardian

Taken in Gondar, Ethiopia in January 2011.

One of the few photos I was able to take of the many guardians or 'watchers' that seemed to be at all the Ethiopian religious sites.

This one was keeping an eye on the tourists at Debre Birhan Selassie Church in Gondar. But he seemed to be 'ok' with me pointing a camera in his direction.

Jump!

Jump!

Taken at a Massai village in the Massai Mara, Kenya in February 2011.

We visited a Massai village one morning and they put on a little 'jumping' show for us. This is Moses, the village chief's son. He spoke quite good English and showed us round his village before showing off his jumping skills.

I'm sure it was all a show, but I found it moving nonetheless. Something about their pride, love of the land and guttural music really resonated with me.

Colourful stance

Colourful stance

Taken at a Massai village in the Massai Mara, Kenya in February 2011.

This is one of the women in the Massai village we visited one morning. None of the women spoke English, but they were happy to come and greet us with a little song.

My daily chore

My daily chore

Taken in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2011.

We met this woman coming down the hill as we were driving up. She was collecting branches to sell as well as use for firewood. She did this chore every day to feed her family.

Taking a break

Taking a break

Taken in Venice, Italy in October 2007.

This gondolier caught my eye because he was out of his usual element. It seemed odd to see him out of his boat and reading a paper. I love that you can see his hat but not his face.

Love's embrace

Love's embrace

Taken at my cousin's wedding, August 2013.

I love this photo of my cousin and her husband - taken during their wedding dance.

Buy a pig?

Buy a pig?

Taken in Hoi An, Vietnam in January 2019.

This woman was selling whistling pigs, ahead of the Lunar New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Pig. There are lots of street sellers in Hoi An, but this woman seemed to particularly enjoy what she was doing!

Flower power

Flower power

Taken in Hoi An, Vietnam in January 2019.

The main market in Hoi An has many stalls. This woman stood out for me as she had the brightest flowers but seemed to be completely unimpressed with them!
